‘Obscura’ is a Latin inflection meaning “shadowy” or “indistinct”. This blog begins at a time where my view down the road of life, as it were, somewhat resembles that inflection. So I’m seizing that feeling of unknowing, and branching myself out into endeavors I’ve always imagined but never made time for. Also, as a photographer, the phrase ‘Camera Obscura’ has always invoked a sense of adventure, so I’ve borrowed from those origins to begin this blog.

Hello! I’m a born-and-bred Pacific Northwesterner - I grew up in Eugene, Oregon, became a hard-core Ducks football fan, then moved up to Husky country in Seattle for the “adulting” stage of life. Then in August 2018 I began a new adventure, moving abroad to Bristol, England! So I love the rain, I love the green outdoors, and when the rain keeps me from the green outdoors, I love finding new ways to organize my home. I’m not as neurotic as Monica, but… I might be close.

I’ve been a book-lover since I was very small, exploring Prince Edward Island with Anne or protecting star systems with the Rogue Squadron, and I still devour books on a weekly basis. I’m an equally avid movie-watcher, though I still try to insist on having read a book before I see the movie (which works out only 75 percent of the time). I try to get to as many movies during the Seattle International Film Festival each year as I can, so in late May-early June look for lots of festival movie opinions!

In 2013 I met a wonderful guy (who happens to be British, which is why we have moved to England), and since then I’ve been lucky enough to begin traveling the world with him. If I’m home longer than a couple months, a serious case of wanderlust sets in! I have a list a mile long of destinations that are calling to me, and I’m so excited to continue exploring them and sharing my favorite experiences with you. I’m a photographer (you can visit my professional portfolio here, which includes a photo blog of recent travels), so you can expect a plethora of pictures from anywhere I visit. Actually, all photos on this blog are taken by me, unless expressly specified otherwise.

This blog is a work in progress, a place for me to experiment with my steadily growing coding skills, and a new adventure. If you’ve found your way here, hello, welcome, and thanks for visiting!
